One of the gifts of building relationships in an unfamiliar community is that you learn to see things with new eyes.
Church planting often affords us the opportunity to humbly learn from others around us rather than imposing our views as outsiders. Check out this amazing story from Niagara Falls International New Venture Leader Rose Amer:
"I had never thought that those outside our faith community would become bold witnesses about Jesus to their friends and families. Our Hindu friends haven't openly confessed their allegiance to Jesus Christ but the stories that we hear every Sunday and Thursday clearly tells that their hearts are moving in the right direction.
"Just recently, after viewing an Alpha video on the topic of faith, one new Hindu student explained what faith means to him. His questions and insights not only inspired me as a church leader but also led to deeper conversations about faith. One thing he said particularly resonated with me: 'Faith is like a highway. You don't know where you are going but you need to trust that you will reach a safer place if you keep following the highway.' Another person added, 'Yes, Jesus is like that highway–He leads you where you want to go.' Then another added, 'I trust that if I believe in Jesus things will get better, but I don't know if I am ready.'
"It is these discussions that made our Thursday night Bible study interesting, alive, and a safe place for Christians and non-Christians alike to explore Christ in a way that they have never experienced before.
"These students are coming to know and understand Christ in a deeper and more profound way. In fact, what has surprised me the most is that these students are often the ones inviting their Christian friends to come and be part of this gathering. I believe God is doing something amazing among this group of young men and women and soon they will profess Christ as their Lord and Saviour."
