A substantial number of descendants of immigrants live and work in Toronto, much like any other big city. However, for various reasons, most of them do not attend a church. Midtown Alliance Church was born out of a desire to gather this group of people.
Besides trying to meet a felt need, Midtown aspires to follow the practice of the apostle Paul. In fact, some of Paul's words have stood out for them particuarly over this past month, as the whole pastoral team have taken a big step of faith together.
Writes church planter Bernard Tam, "In the past few months our whole pastoral team has moved into the church’s neighbourhood. This has been an incredible opportunity for us to experience what it is like to be neighbours in our community in Midtown. Living incarnationally has also meant encountering the very real struggles of illnesses and ailments. The words of Paul that we are struggling against flesh and blood, but fighting a spiritual battle (cf. Eph. 6:12) have been coming to mind at this time.
Our team has experienced an incredible amount of spiritual warfare around us over the past two months as we have fought illnesses. However, though it has been really tough on us, it only leads us to recognize that God is at work in our neighbourhood. This has led us to be on our knees praying and committing to the Lord more regularly!"
What a beautiful example of following the Lord as He increases our trust in Him to do things we never thought possible.
