Tragedy struck our Church without Walls (CWW) family this December when we received the shocking news that Becky lost her life in a terrible vehicle accident. Becky was introduced to our CWW family this summer through her step-brother David. She was such a light! In October, David introduced her to Jesus and she gave her life to him. Then she moved near Tara King and continued to grow in the Lord. In December, she felt led to be baptized and Tara baptized her in her bathtub. That was the day before the accident.

Tara was invited to speak at Becky’s funeral and decided to tell Becky’s testimony since she never got a chance to do it herself. It’s printed below. We miss you terribly Becky, but we are so grateful to Jesus that we will see you again!

Becky Johnson’s Testimony

By: Tara King

My name is Tara King. I was just going to say a few kind words about Becky and how much of an impact she had on my life, but instead it was put on my heart to share her testimony with you since she never got the chance to share it herself.

I first met Becky this past summer while she was staying in Owen Sound. When we met, she was very sweet, but I could see the pain and brokenness in her eyes. Her brother David and I always attended church every Sunday, and Becky wanted to start coming with us. I don’t think she expected David to actually wake up in the morning and bang on her door to get ready. After church, Becky was excited to tell us how much she loved going! She wanted to go all the time, so that’s what we did. She also became a part of our Church without Walls family.

I moved to North Bay in August, and Becky moved back to North Bay in October, but after I left, while she was looking for a way north, David and Beck had the most important conversation that you can ever possibly have with someone. That important conversation gave her new life because she accepted Christ to be her Savior.

I was so happy when Becky finally came to North Bay because I was so lonely, and didn’t really know anyone. I suffer from mental illness, addiction, as well as physical limitations, so Becky was a huge help to me! She would come over to carry my laundry up and down the stairs for me, she would ride the bus with me when my anxiety got high, she would come over when I was trapped in my negative thoughts, and when I was in situations where all I wanted to do was relapse, she would pull me out of those situations.

When we first met, Becky barely had enough strength to carry herself, and only a few short months after that, she was carrying me too. She had her ups and downs like we all do, but she was in control of her life and her feelings again. No longer did I see that hurt and brokenness when I looked into her eyes. I saw peace and satisfaction with herself and who she was. I saw joy, and it brought me joy seeing her being able to break those walls down and open up. I’m also very pleased that she had Gord in her life. Gord taught her that it was okay to feel pain, but that it shouldn’t prevent you from opening your heart to love and be loved again. I am so proud of Becky and all of these beautiful, and positive changes she made in such a short period of time. She was living a very healthy lifestyle. We would always go to the gym together, go on hikes and walks, make crafts, play charades with our friend Amanda, go to church, and attend our Bible study for young adults. She, like I, craved that fellowship. Beck turned her life around and that takes so much courage. She was one of the bravest people I’ve ever met.

Friday, December 13th, the day before her passing, Becky and I were at the mall waiting for our ride when she told me that God put it on her heart to ask me to baptize her! She knew I was heading south for the holidays so she said we could do it after Christmas, but my heart told me not to wait. We went back to my place, prayed, got our hearts rights, and then Becky took yet another gigantic step forward by being baptized.

God gave me a verse for Becky that day. 1Chronicles 28:20: David also says to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discourage, for The Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple is finished.” At the time, that spoke directly to Becky’s life, and now I think it speaks volumes to us. She was a huge blessing in my life and I firmly believe she saved my life many times. She was such a special young woman who touched so many people’s lives. I love her so much!

Becky loved the people in her life so much which is why I am sharing this with you. If Beck could have one more thing, she would want you all to have what she has. 1 Thessalonians 4:13: “ Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.”

Good people don’t go to heaven, good followers do. Becky was a great example of that. Thank you.
