The Well Community Church

Binbrook is a community in the southeast corner of Hamilton of about 5,000 people, which is expected to double, if not triple, within the next 10 years.

The biggest demographic is young families, with many young children. There are currently two elementary schools in the community with enrolment of almost 1,000 students each! Although it’s rapidly growing, this is still a new community on the cusp of forming an identity.

Kevin Birnie and his wife Amanda feel drawn to this community and the families in Binbrook and feel that God has given them a passion to minister there - not just to have another Sunday service for people to attend, but to connect people with the person of Jesus and see Him radically transform lives.

Kevin writes,

"God has given us a spiritual burden for this community. We recognize that, while people are not directly searching for a church, they have spiritual concerns and questions. We are taking the faith step that their need for spiritual friendship will be matched by the emerging community of faith that we envision to be rooted in this community. We want to pay attention to what God is inviting us to do."

This New Venture represents a partnership between Gateway Church and the Central Canadian District of the C&MA.

Three different homes and two babies later, Kevin and Amanda Birnie are now beginning to piece together the plan God had all along. After packing up their lives in White Rock, BC and moving to Hamilton, ON for Kevin to finish his Master’s program, this couple prayed for God’s leading in their lives, filling out their résumés and actively searching for a ministry position. Early on, the community of Binbrook was planted into their hearts and through numerous conversations, prayer, and relationships they have made partnerships that will allow them to transition into leading a new community. They believe that this is something only God could orchestrate and they are excited to lead a new expression of church in Binbrook.
